Podcast
This podcast explores topics on photography. This first series will look at photography's transition from film to digital through conversations with people who lived through this pivotal moment at the turn of the twenty-first century. We will also hear from people who came after this transitional time.
From approximately 1945 to 2005, people learned, practiced, taught, published, displayed, and fostered vibrant communities through film photography. Then, within a decade, digital technology fundamentally transformed the photographic landscape.
This shift changed more than the tools used to make photographs. It reshaped photography education, professional practices, publishing, archiving, and the ways people shared, distributed, and valued photographs. At the same time, the internet, mobile technology, and economic disruptions in the 2000s further accelerated the decline of the film-based ecosystem that defined photography for generations.
These conversations will explore what was lost, what was gained, and what endured or evolved from this pivotal chapter in photographic history. The episodes will be available as they are made over the weeks, months, and years ahead. The aim is to have a library of conversations on this topic that will inform both the present day audience and people who find this podcast in the future.
